Student In Dorm Proposal

It has come to Student Government’s attention that many students, including members of Student Government and Dorm Peer Leadership, are unhappy with the change to a 7:30 study hall start time in the winter.  We understand that the reasoning behind the change is a concern for sleep time of students because classes start 15 minutes earlier. However, because in room time is still 10:30, students do not go to bed any earlier, and if anything have built up more energy from the full hour of in dorm socializing. As well, many students are unhappy because they have too little time between dinner, extra helps, and odd practice hours. Students often cannot attend extra help sessions because there are too many commitments being packed into too little time.  Dorm Peer Leaders have noticed an increase in stress around campus within the student body and believe that the earlier study hall time is part of the problem. Many students would rather have a half an hour of free time before study hall, as opposed to after study hall. This is because they want to be able to participate in any commitment, or socialize with any friends that they might not be able to see after in-dorm time.  The students, Student Government, and the Dorm Peer Leaders propose that winter study hall should start at 8:00 PM and go till 10:00 PM, with an in-room time of 10:30 PM. We believe this will make the student body happier, and healthier as a whole.
